PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

October 2020 was the EndPolio month of Rotary. Thanks to all the Fellow Members’ participation in the “Call for Donation to EndPoilio Day on October 24th, 2020. Besides the donation of $1500 USD from our Club to Rotary Foundation, we have received $1326.22 donation from our members. As you all know that all the donation to Poilo eradication will be matched by the Gates Foundation in 2-to-1 ratio. Rotary has contributed more than $2 billion to fight polio, including matching funds from the Gates Foundation.

October 2020 was also the month of challenge we took for fundraising in this pandemic time. The Third Golf Tournament of our Club was held on October 7th, 2020 at St-Raphael Golf Club with 60 Golfers’s participation. $7644.58 was raised by this event which gave us great encouragement at this difficult time. Great thanks to the Fundraising Committee headed by PP Mark H. Chau and all the support and donation from the fellow members and our friends! Thanks to you all!

As COVID-19 continue to spread, our challenge for fundraising will be more and more serous. However, with the support of all the Rotarian members, we have confident that we are going to embrace this challenge and find a way out from this pandemic period.

Be Positive! Be Healthy! Be Safe! God bless all the Fellow Rotarians and their Families!

PolioPlus is a Signature Program of The Rotary Foundation

PolioPlus is Rotary’s priority program which supports global efforts to eradicate polio. It was launched in 1985, with the help of Dr. Albert Sabin, developer of the oral polio vaccine, as a worldwide program to protect children from the cruel and fatal consequences of polio. In 1988, the World Health Assembly challenged the world to eradicate polio, and since that time, Rotary’s efforts, along with partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and governments around the world have achieved a 99 percent reduction in the number of polio cases worldwide.
As of 2018-19, The Rotary Foundation has raised over US$1.6 billion for polio eradication. By the time the world is certified polio-free, our contributions will make Rotary the largest non-governmental financial contributor to the global polio eradication effort.

You can help end polio by making a gift to the PolioPlus Fund at endpolio.org.

"Here is my personal challenge to all of our members.
When we get our flu shots this year, let's make a donation to Polio for $20.20. Why $20.20, it is in honor of this year 2020.
Imagine if we make a donation of $20.20 or let's say we round it up to $25. When it is matched by the Gates foundation it becomes $75.00."

"Voici le défi personnel que je lance à tous nos membres.
Lorsque nous nous ferons vacciner contre la grippe cette année, faisons un don de 20,20 dollars à Polio. Pourquoi 20,20 $, c'est en l'honneur de cette année 2020.
Imaginez que nous fassions un don de 20,20 $ ou, disons, que nous l'arrondissions à 25 $. Lorsque la Fondation Gates fait un don équivalent, il devient 75 dollars."

Rotary’s Polio Challenge

Since 2013, the Gates Foundation has matched every $1 Rotary commits to polio eradication 2-to-1. In January 2020, the Gates Foundation announced that they will continue to match 2:1 every new dollar Rotary commits to polio eradication up to $50 million per year through 2023!  Rotary has contributed more than $2 billion to fight polio, including matching funds from the Gates Foundation, and countless volunteer hours since launching its polio eradication program, PolioPlus, in 1985.

Thank you for supporting Rotary and leveraging your generosity!

You can help end polio by making a gift to the PolioPlus Fund at endpolio.org.
